Parry Sound and the waters of Georgian Bay are located in Anishinaabek Territory, a vast area of land and water that was governed and stewarded by   Anishinaabek Peoples. This land governance is recognized by the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850 and the Williams Treaty. 

The region’s Anishinaabek hosts include  seven different First Nations: Dokis First Nation, Henvey Inlet First Nation, Magnetawan First Nation, Shawanaga First Nation, Wasauksing First Nation, Moose Deer Point First Nation, Chimnissing First Nation and Wikwemikoon Unceded Territory.
